LITCHFIELD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut authorities are investigating the discovery of skeleton remains found in the woods on the Harwinton/Northfield town line in Litchfield county.
An individual reported finding what they believed to be skeletal remains to State Police Troop L in Litchfield at around 3:05 p.m. on Sunday.
According to police, the individual was walking their dog in the woods around Campville Road when they came upon the suspected remains.
After responding to the area, troopers located the skeletal remains in the woods about 100 feet off the roadway, police said.
State Police Search and Rescue, Western District Major Crime Detectives and the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded afterward and conducted a detailed search of the area.
The remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for examination, police said.
