Connecticut State Police say a Derby man is facing charges in a crash that killed a state DOT workers on-the-job in Fairfield on Friday.
Troopers say Edward Myers, 60, was driving erratically on I-95 Southbound in Fairfield when he struck Elvin Hernandez, a DOT worker who was getting out of a work truck to pick up debris on the highway.
When troopers got to Myers at the crash site, they observed he appeared to be impaired, showed poor coordination, had low and slow speech, looked severely discolored, and had constricted pupils.
He admitted to taking heroin before the collision, and a baggie of a white, pebble-like substance he admitted was cocaine was found in the jacket of his pocket.
Myers is facing charges of second-degree manslaughter, second-degree operating under the influence, operating a motor vehicle without an ignition device, possession of a controlled substance, and failure to drive in the proper lane.
Bond is $750,000.
