Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - The state Department of Public Health is reporting an increase in the number of cases of cyclosporiasis.
That's the food-borne bacteria the leads to diarrhea, cramps, and other symptoms.
DPH says 35 cases have been confirmed here as of Monday, nearly double the number reported last year.
The bacteria has turned up in 17 states, including Connecticut.
DPH says illness typically begins within a week of exposure.
Healthy people tend to recover without treatment although those with underlying health conditions may require antibiotics.
Health experts say it's best to thoroughly wash produce.
U.S. outbreaks have been linked to bagged salads, fresh cilantro and basil, as well as raspberries, snow peas and green onions.
