NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The man who struck and killed Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier in a hit-and-run crash last May has accepted a plea deal in the case Tuesday.
The deal, reached in New Britain Superior Court, will have Alex Oyola-Sanchez spend 18 years in prison.
Oyola-Sanchez veered into the shoulder on I-84 in Southington last May, where Trooper Pelletier had been conducting a motor vehicle stop.
State Police say that Oyola-Sanchez, who was later found under the influence of drugs including fentanyl and crack cocaine, kept driving away from the scene of the crash.
He was arrested further down the highway in Farmington.
Oyola-Sanchez had been charged with second-degree manslaughter, operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and evading responsibility resulting in death.
Trooper Pelletier, who was a Southington resident, left behind a wife, Dominique, as well as two young sons, Troy and Zachary.
