Facing a federal charge of wire fraud, State Rep. Michael DiMassa (D-CT) will resign from the State Assembly, according to a spokesperson for House Democratic leadership.

His letter of resignation is expected Friday at the Secretary of the State's office.

DiMassa had already resigned from his job as an administrative assistant at West Haven City Hall, effective Monday.

The resignations come after DiMassa's arrest Wednesday by federal agents. Prosecutors say a company DiMassa co-owns accepted $637,000 in payments from the City of West Haven for contract work that was never performed. He's free on $250,000 bail.

DiMassa took office in 2017, and ran unopposed in 2020, winning a third term, which will end when his resignation takes effect. He'll be replaced by special election.
