FARMINGTON, CONN (WTIC Radio)- Trumpf Manufacturing, its U.S. heaquarters in Farmington damaged by a fatal plane crash in May 2021, held a ground-breaking on its seventh expansion, a 56-thousand square foot "smart-factory" building costing $40 million.
Trumpf President and CEO Lutz Labisch said despite the plane crash, Trumpf was busy last year and "achieved more than one billion in order intakes in North America for the first time in its history.....a 50 percent increase compared to the previous year. The increase would have been higher without the detrimental disruption in business due to the plane crash."
The company manufactures laser cutting, bending and arc-welding machinery.
The plane crash killed four after takeoff from nearby Robertson Airport.
Trumpf Executive Vice President Burke Doar said some machinery inside the building damaged by the plane crash is still being repaired.
Additional hiring is anticipated after the project is completed in May of next year.
