Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - Some relief could be coming soon for flood weary Connecticut farmers.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved Governor Lamont's request for a disaster declaration following the heavy rains that washed out and caused damage to farms and crops across the state in July.

That means farmers in all eight Connecticut counties will be eligible to receive assistance such as emergency loans to help cover the damage, provided certain eligibility requirements are met.

Lamont called 2023 a tough year for the state's farmers and says the quick action of the federal government will help them recoup losses incurred as a result of the flooding.

Over a foot of rain fell at Bradley International Airport in July, more in other parts of the state, making this it among the wettest on record.
