Middletown, Conn(WTIC Radio)-The city is using $720-thousand dollars in federal funds to reduce fatalities and serious injuries through a safe streets study targeting four commercial corridors.
They are Washington, Newfield, Saybrook and South Main Streets with all providing access to the city's downtown.
Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro secured the funding with the help of Connecticut's federal delegation. She said the money, from the bipartisan infrastructure law, will improve street safety and plays a crucial role in economic development.
Middletown Mayor Ben Florsheim said many of these commercial corridors are growing and it's critical for improvements on these streets that he said
are unsafe for pedestrians.
Middletown Deputy Public Works Director Howard Weisberg said any physical improvements are at least three years away.
