MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut State Police release their final patrol statistics for the Fourth of July holiday weekend in 2023.
Troopers investigated four deadly crashes out of 489 total crashes. The deadly accidents happened in Harwinton, Westbrook, North Canaan, and Greenwich.
There was a large year-over-year increase in accidents. A total of 299 crashes were counted in 2022, with two deadly accidents.
There were 485 speeding citations issued during this year's enforcement, a decrease from the 644 reported in 2022.
D.U.I. arrests are lower this year but in range with 2022's report, with 43 arrests made this year compared to 50 in 2022.
Other statistics recorded during this year's holiday enforcement included 7,312 calls for service, 18 seatbelt violations, and 835 total violations (unsafe lane changing, using a cell phone, texting, following too closely).
The period lasted between 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023, and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
