Bridgeport, Conn./WTIC Radio - The chief state's attorney's office says five people have been charged with the misuse of absentee ballots in 2023 during the Democratic mayoral primary in Bridgeport.

Incumbent Mayor Joe Ganim was declared the winner after the absentee ballot count put him over the top against challenger John Gomes in the September 12th, 2023 primary.

A day later, police received complaints about possible ballot fraud.

One of the defendants, Wanda Geter-Pataky, 68, was captured on surveillance video stuffing multiple ballots into a drop box.

Gomes filed suit and a new primary was ordered.

Ganim won that election, as well.

The five are charged with various ballot fraud offenses and have been released on written promises to appear.
