It is called the End Diaper Need Act of 2023.
Connecticut Democratic Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro is a co-sponsor of the proposed legislation, which would establish a $100 million program to distribute free diapers to
low-income families.
DeLauro and California Democratic Congresswoman Barbara Lee say that families across the nation need break as they face rising expenses and stagnant wages.
Says DeLauro: "Sadly, one in three families do not have enough diapers to keep their children clean and healthy."
Adding to that, Lee says that low-income families with infants spend 14% of their pay on diapers.
This is not DeLauro's first foray on the diaper front. She was also behind the creation of the Diaper Distribution Demonstration and Research Pilot, which gave grants to diaper banks.
