CSP: Girls basketball coach struck victim with car after argument

Columbia, CT/WTIC Radio - State police are charging a man after they say he hit a victim with his car following an altercation Saturday.

Under arrest is Bryan Baez-Rivera, 29, of Willimantic.

They say the incident unfolded as Baez-Rivera was coaching a youth basketball game at Horace Porter School in Columbia.

According to the victim, they reported getting into an argument with the visiting coach.

The victim said when they attempted to approach the coach's vehicle, Baez-Rivera allegedly struck the victim, who went over the hood and roof of the car, causing non-life threatening injuries.

State troopers contacted Baez-Rivera, who told them the victim and others chased him on foot and he fled fearing for his passengers, including children.

Baez-Rivera told investigators the victim walked in front of his car and he couldn't stop in time.

He faces several charges including breach of peace, assault, risk of injury and reckless endangerment.
