HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The top two Republican leaders in the state Senate are calling for audits of federal Covid-19 relief funds for all 169 cities and towns as an investigation continues over alleged abuse of those funds in West Haven.
State Senate Republican Leader Kevin Kelly and Leader Pro Tem Paul Formica have written to state Office of Policy and Management Secretary Melissa McCaw about their request.

In the letter, Kelly and Formica said the allegations coming out of West Haven about possible misuse of funds are "deeply troubling".
A federal investigation was launched after Mayor Nancy Rossi announced earlier this month at least some of that money may have been fraudulently spent.
In addition, Kelly and Formica said the audits will determine whether the funds are being spent "for their intended purpose" and will help "restore public confidence" in how the money is doled out.
