Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - Governor Lamont has declared a Stage 2 drought advisory for Connecticut.
The lack of significant rainfall over the last two months has prompted the action.
The advisory covers all eight counties.
“The lack of rain over the past two months has caused exceptionally dry conditions across Connecticut, resulting in numerous wildfires and reduced groundwater levels and streamflows,” Governor Lamont said.
Lamont says the purpose of the action is to raise awareness and he urged everyone to be "mindful of their water consumption."
To that end, officials are suggesting residents shut down outdoor irrigation, fix leaky faucets and fixtures, and follow local conservation requests.
The U.S. Drought Monitor currently puts the state in the "moderate drought" category.
