GREENWICH, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut State Police arrest a Greenwich man who was allegedly driving recklessly on I-95 on a rim that was missing a tire.
Hector Estrella, 28, is being charged with DUI, reckless driving, failure to maintain proper lane, and operating a motor vehicle with unsafe tires.
After reports of an erratic driver came in on I-95 Southbound around 11:05 p.m. Saturday, responding troopers found a vehicle emitting large plumes of smoke where a tire was missing.
Troopers say Estrella was driving the vehicle under 30 miles per hour while struggling to maintain a lane.
Estrella tried to drive away from troopers by getting off Exit 4 and going onto I-95 Northbound while going around 70 miles per hour and still failing to hold a lane.
Troopers were able to box in his vehicle.
Estrella was seen to be impaired with bloodshot eyes, poor coordination, and a lack of awareness that he was driving on a rim.
He failed field sobriety tests, and state police say his blood alcohol level was later found in excess of the legal limit.
Estrella was later released from custody on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on February 24, 2025.
