Guilford, Conn./WTIC Radio - An hours long standoff in Guilford came to an end this morning with the death of the alleged suspect.
It began with a fire in a home on Durham Road Wednesday.
Police say when firefighters arrived, they were confronted by a man brandishing two long guns.
That person later fled to the home of a family member on Fitch Hill Road, keeping police at bay for hours.
Hostage negotiators attempted to talk the man out to no avail.
A State Police SWAT team that arrived early this morning moved in upon hearing the screms from a woman within.
The victim who was rescued did not appear to be injured, troopers said, but was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Police say they found the suspect dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation is continuing.
