HARTFORD, CONN.(WTIC Radio)-The Lamont administration's proposals for gun reform received a hearing before the legislature's Judiciary Committee, with the hearing featuring support and opposition.
The measures include banning the open carrying of firearms, limiting handgun purchases to one per month, closing the loopholes in the assault weapons ban and a ten-day waiting period before purchasing a gun.
Deborah Davis is a member of Moms Against Gun Violence. She said her group is on the front lines supporting efforts for prevention and intervention. "Our passion and compassion takes us a step further to prevent another young lost life." She lost her son Phillip to gun violence.
Ray Bevis, Legislative Coordinator with the Connecticut Citizens Defense League said the Lamont Administration wants an outright ban to open carrying. "If a person has a valid permit and passed a background check doesn't make them dangerous whether or not you see the firearm."
