HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)-The State Bond Commission approved nearly one billion in funding, with about half that amount targeting transportation projects.

Governor Lamont who chairs the commission called the budget details, "not flashy" but used for fixing and rejuvenating projects.

The highlights included $40 million for deferred maintenance and code compliance for the UConn Health Center in Farmington and $34 million for IT development and implementation for the state Department of Labor, State Comptroller, Department of Social Services, Department of Developmental Services, Department of Children and Families and Department of Administrative Services facilities.

$10 million is also heading for increased school security.

Additionally, the Community Investment Fund will receive $76 million for underserved communities and Alliance Districts.
One of those grant recipients is the Winsted Health Center. It plans to offer 40-units in affordable housing, emphasized for veterans. The Center plans to partner with Northwestern CT Community College for
an entrepreneurial center, featuring workforce development and training.

Community Investment Fund Director Matt Pugliese said today's funding is the first round of ten that will eventually provide $875 million.
