Hamden, Conn./WTIC Radio - A man is in custody after what Hamden police say started as an armed robbery at a liquor store and ended with the suspect leading officers on a pursuit through at least two towns.
Police were alerted around 11:30 of an armed holdup at Lincoln Liquors on State Street.
Officers later spotted the suspect vehicle, a dark Nissan Altima on Whitney Avenue, before entering the Wilbur Cross Parkway northbound.
Police lost sight of the suspect but he was spotted again in North Haven on State Street.
The suspect drove into a police cruiser before entering the Route 40 connector in the wrong direction toward Interstate 91, not before striking two other vehicles in the process.
Investigators say the suspect vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in a grassy area.
By this time Hamden, North Haven and the State Police were on scene trying to coax the suspect out of the vehicle before he finally surrendered.
Charges against the suspect are pending.
