HAMDEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Hamden Police are investigating a robbery and an attempted armed robbery in the Stop and Shop parking lot.
In the first case, a victim was in his parked vehicle around 10:30 p.m. Monday, according to police, when a suspect opened the unlocked car door and brandished a firearm.
The suspect demanded his belongings and fled when the victim yelled for help.
The suspect was reportedly wearing black clothing, a black mask, and fled in a black SUV.
No injuries were reported and nothing was taken from the victim.
Around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the same parking lot on the report of a theft of a pocketbook.
The victim was loading groceries into her parked car.
A suspect quickly approached and grabbed her purse from the shopping carriage. The victim was not injured. The suspect fled in a black SUV.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle involved in both incidents is possibly a stolen vehicle.
Hamden Police say they're working with area police departments in both investigations.
Hamden Police also say they will continue to maintain an increased presence in the shopping areas along Dixwell Avenue.
