Investigators learned that Smokey's convenience store on Main Street was allegedly purchasing stolen items by shoplifters for resale.

Troopers say CVS filed a complaint with the State Police Statewide Organized Crime Investigative Task Force that some items from the pharmacy store were being stolen and resold at Smokey's.

A search warrant turned up items with store tags from CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Stop and Shop, and other retailers, according to police.

Under arrest are the convenience store's owner, 55-year-old Kashif Khalifa of Tolland and an employee, 26-year-old Homes Pulipati of New Haven.

The suspects are facing various charges including theft, conspiracy, and larceny.
