SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Southington Police arrest a Hartford man in connection with two burglaries and a pursuit.
Police say Jimmie Collins, 56, allegedly carried out burglaries at the Blackstone Irish Pub and the Tops Supermarket on Sunday midday.
When Police caught up with Collins outside the Tops Supermarket, he didn't comply with officers commands and attempted to flee in a stolen U-Haul box truck that he was seen allegedly using in the Blackstone Irish Pub case.
Police then began a pursuit. At one point, an officer an to take an evasive action to avoid a collision with Collins. Collins allegedly struck two vehicles that were parked in the area of Meriden Avenue and Lazy Lane.
The truck was ditched on Queen Street, at which time Collins is accused of taking off on foot and eventually using a stolen bicycle in an attempt to get away.
After falling off the bicycle, police say Collins displayed a screw driver, threatening officers.
He was eventually taken into custody after officers deployed a taser at him in the area of the Southington Auto Wash and Quick Lube.
Collins was found to be in possession of a knife, screwdriver, crack cocaine, and property stolen during the Tops burglary. After being taken into custody, Collins was found to be under the influence of alcohol or drug.
Collins is facing a slew of charges and is being held on a $400,000 bond.
The charges in the Blackstone Irish Pub case include: four counts of criminal mischief in the third degree; one count of burglary; three counts of third-degree attempted burglary; and two counts of sixth-degree larceny.
The charges in the Tops Supermarket case include: first-degree larceny; larceny of a motor vehicle; first-degree criminal trover; third-degree criminal mischief; sixth-degree larceny; third-degree burglary; interfering with an investigation; failure to obey officer signal; engaging police in pursuit; reckless driving; reckless endangerment; attempted assault on a police officer; possession of burglary tools; second-degree breach of peace; four counts of possession of a controlled substance; two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia; operating without a license; and DUI.
Collins is facing charges in the motor vehicle crashes, including: evading responsibility; failure to maintain lane; and traffic signal violations. Additional charges are pending.
