BETHEL, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Bethel Police are investigating a hate crime incident against a local coffee shop over the weekend.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Molten Java explains the pride flag on the outside of their building was removed and burned late Saturday night. The remnants were scattered in front of the coffee shop's front door.
Democratic State Representative Raghib Allie-Brennan, of Bethel, calls the incident "heartbreaking" in a written statement on social media. He is now calling for "a conversation about acceptance and kindness."
Molten Java pushes forward, insisting "...all of the baristas can do what we love to do and hope the authorities find the individuals involved."
Anyone with more information is asked to call Bethel Police at (203) 744-7900.
