A funeral Saturday is bringing family, friends, and community members together to celebrate the life of fallen New Haven Firefighter Thomas Kelly.
Kelly, who joined the Department in 1979, fell down a 30' shaft while fighting a blaze on Chapel Street in 1992.
Firefighters carried out a daring rescue to save him while the building burned, but he had been catastrophically injured. Kelly remained incapacitated for the next 34 years until he passed away on Monday from the injuries sustained in the fire.
Services on Saturday began at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Hamden before moving to interment at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
