HEBRON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut State Police arrest a Hebron woman on DUI and other charges in connection with a vehicle theft.
Troopers say the owner of a Hyundai Santa Fe reported that her vehicle was missing from her parking space at a local business when she left a nearby grocery store on Tuesday.
Employees told troopers they witnessed a woman, later identified as Michele Mcnaughton, 50, of Hebron, as well as a dog, acting strangely in the business parking lot.
They also identified a Jeep Renegade that was parked improperly in the lot, later found to be registered to Mcnaughton.
Troopers found Mcnaughton and the dog inside the Hyundai she allegedly stolen in the driveway at the address registered to the Jeep.
Mcnaughton claimed she thought she had entered her own vehicle, as both vehicles appeared similar to her.
State Police say they also found the vehicle's owner's wallet and cash scattered across the driver's seat, along with their driver's license.
Throughout the investigation, Mcnaughton displayed signs of impairment and was asked to perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which she failed.
Mcnaughton is charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle under suspension, third offense illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and or drugs, and larceny of a motor vehicle.
Bond is $10,000.
