Hit-and-run injures officer in Naugatuck

NAUGATUCK, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Naugatuck Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that injured an officer Thursday.

Police say Stanton Ragar Trent, 29, of New Haven, allegedly fled the Walmart on New Haven Road around 4 p.m. Thursday, while suspected of waiting as a getaway car for a shoplifter.


Trent, according to police, went down Route 63 and struck an officer who was directing traffic at an extra duty traffic post on Route 63 - Main Street on Thursday afternoon.

When officers attempted to stop Trent, police say a pursuit ensued from Route 8, to Waterbury, Wolcott, back through Waterbury, Route 8, and I-84 westbound before Trent was apprehended in Middlebury in the area of the South Street overpass.

During the course of the pursuit, drugs, money, and a .380 pistol were discarded from the vehicle which was subsequently recovered and seized.

Trent faces charges of first degree robbery, first degree assault, two counts of possession of drugs with intent to sell, and second degree reckless endangerment.

The officer struck has non-life threatening injuries and is currently being treated at a local hospital.
