
NEW HAVEN, CONN (WTIC Radio)-Before the city's top Pizza titans, Governor Lamont used National Pizza Day as a platform to declare
New Haven as the Pizza Capital of America.
Lamont read the declaration at Ernie's in the Westville section, surrounded by the pizzeria owners, Mayor Justin Elicker, State Comptroller Sean Scanlon
and State Treasurer Erick Russell.
Colin Caplan, pizza guru and head of Taste of New Haven said pizza restaurants in New Haven provide thousands of jobs and sales top $100
million a year.
Governor Lamont said we sell about 100 acres worth of pizza a day in America, or 35-hundred slices every second.
He said pepperoni is the most popular topping and anchovie is the least popular.
