Manchester, Conn./WTIC Radio - Police in Manchester have arrested a man they say held them at bay for nearly two days while wielding a machete.

Under arrest is Horace Walker, 57, of Olcott Street.

The incident Tuesday followed an episode the day before when police were called to Walker's home on a report from family of erratic behavior.

Police say they tried talking to Walker Monday, to no avail, noting he appeared to be having a mental health crisis.

A mental health professional attempted to talk to Walker Tuesday but that took a dangerous turn, officers say, when Walker again pulled the machete on the worker, who was able to escape.

Police were ultimately able to take Walker into custody and he was transported to Manchester Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

He faces charges of breach of peace, threatening, and criminal attempt at assault of an officer.

Walker is due in Manchester Superior Court on Wednesday.
