Watertown, Conn./WTIC Radio - A man is due in court on Friday on charges that date back over four decades, according to Watertown police.

They say John Church, 60, is charged.

Police say the Canton resident is being charged with two counts of kidnapping in the first degree for the alleged incidents that occurred in 1982 and 1983.

Both victims, police say, were under six years of age at the time.

The Waterbury state's attorney's office determined the statute of limitations on sexual abuse charges had expired.

However, the court did sign off on the kidnapping warrants.

Church is being held on those charges.

Bond was set at $1.5 million.

In a statement, Watertown police said "Survivors of sexual abuse at any age are encouraged to reach out to victim advocacy services in their area to aid in their recovery to strengthen their wellbeing. Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury is our local resource, but many options are available."
