(Meriden, Conn./WTIC Radio - Meriden city manager Tim Coon has resigned.

During a special city council meeting Monday night, it was announced Coon had tendered his resignation effective January 1st and will go on medical leave immeadiately until then.

Coon was found sleeping in the hallway of his apartment building last week, six months after he was charged with DUI in a wrong way crash.

He was placed on leave after the crash, then given a two-year contract extension several months later.

In the incident last week,  police were called and said Coon told them he couldn't find his keys or cell phone but was able to answer basic questions.

His keys and phone were later found on the roof of Coon's car.

At the meeting Monday night, the council tabled a measure to name a permanent acting city manager.

Meriden Police Chief Roberto Rosado has been manning the position since the incident involving Coon last week.
