MERIDEN, CONN (WTIC Radio)-City officials gathered to remember 9/11 twenty two years after terrorists crashed planes into the twin towers
and two other locations, claiming nearly three thousand lives.
Speakers at the ceremony included Mayor Kevin Scarpati, Police Chief Robert Rosado, and Fire Chief Kenneth Morgan.
The ceremony, featuring flag raising and the tolling of bells, also included a brief address by Gail Eagleson, the widow of Bruce Eagleson who died in the Twin Towers trying to save others, risking his own life.
Mayor Scarpati proclaimed today Bruce Eagleson Day in the city of Meriden, recognizing his bravery.
At the time Bruce Eagleson ran the Westfield Meriden Mall.
Officials said September 11th is a time to reflect and also to return the country to a time of resilience, rather than the political divisions that
have evaporated the country's unity.
Gail Eagleson said Bruce cherished his three sons. "We planned to have our grandchildren together, and to retire together. It's very hard because none of that happened."
