Merritt Parkway crash leaves four dead

Stratford, Conn./WTIC Radio - Four people are dead following an early morning wrong-way crash on the Merritt Parkway in Stratford.

Around 1:43 a.m. Thursday, State Police dispatch received numerous reports of a wrong-way driver traveling north in the southbound lanes near exit 53.


The vehicle traveling the wrong way struck a minivan containing the driver and two passengers.

All four were pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash had the roadway closed in both directions for several hours but has since reopened.

Those in the minivan have been identifed as Steven Rowland, 65, Thomas Lucian Vitale, 80, and Olga Vitale, 81, all from Easton

The name of the fourth victim has not yet been released.

State police are still investigating anyone with any information is asked to contact the Troop G barracks in Bridgeport.
