MIDDLETOWN, CONN(WTIC Radio)-The YMCA on Union Street, built in 1927, is planning a $25-million upgrade.
Third District Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro has secured a million dollars and a capital campaign is underway, with hopes of more state funding.

The project addresses handicapped accessibility, expands youth development programs, childcare and community wellness services.

Groundbreaking is anticipated in 2026-2027.

"Finally we see a path forward for having a facility that reflects the quality and level of service that are provided every single day for everyone. At
a time in our society when it's very important for people to come together at a place where they feel accepted, they feel a high degree of tolerance, that they
can be who they are, where they are." said Karren Warren, President of the Board of Directors.
