Mystic, Conn./WTIC Radio - There's word of the death of the seal pup that was found roaming the streets of New Haven last month.
Mystic Aquarium says Chappy's health declined over the last few days and he passed away.
He was being treated at the aquarium's Animal Rescue Clinic.
The seal captivated the state when he was found by New Haven police February 16th.
Officials at the aquarium say he'd originally presented with kidney issues and dehydration.
After first responding well to treatment, however, Chappy's health took a turn as he transitioned on to whole fish causing digestive difficulties, said the aquarium.
A necropsy indicated intestinal problems that cut off the blood flow to Chappy's gastrointestinal tract.
In a statement the aquarium said the "staff are proud that they were able to give Chappy the best chance possible and are devastated by this outcome."
