NAUGATUCK, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Naugatuck officials joined together Friday night to denounce "racial comments" made by a member of the Police Chief's family.
Mayor N. Warren Hess, Police Chairmen Ralph Roper, Jr., and Deputy Police Chief C. Colin McAllister say in a written statement Friday night that the comments found on social media attributed to a member of Chief Steven Hunt's family member are "disgusting" and "totally inappropriate."
"These comments are not consistent with Police Chief Hunt's character and leadership of the department, as well as the values he has instilled in our Police Department," their letter reads.
The officials also vouched for Chief Hunt's wife, Johnna Hunt, who is an Associate Principal at Naugatuck High School.

The town is gathering internal information while they bring in an independent, third-party investigator.
The Board of Education is conducting a separate investigation.
