WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The State Office of Inspector General is taking over the investigation of a shooting involving police and a New Haven man who died after the shooting.

The New Haven Violent Crime Task Force was conducting an investigation at 2 Boston Post Road in West Haven, near the Splash Car Wash, around 5 p.m. on Thursday.

During the course of the investigation the suspect displayed a firearm.

A Connecticut State Police Sergeant and a New Haven Police officer discharged their weapons, causing injury to the suspect.

The suspect later died.

The Office of the Inspector General has been notified and has assumed the investigation. The New Haven States Attorney responded to the scene and is assisting. Detectives from the Central District Major Crime Squad responded to the scene to assist the Inspector General's Office with scene processing.

No law enforcement personnel were injured.
