HAMDEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Hamden Police arrested a New Haven teen Wednesday who is accused of robbing an elderly woman and throwing her to the ground.
The 16-year-old suspect, not being identified because of age, is accused of approaching an 85-year-old woman on May 17, 2021, as she was putting groceries in her car at the Hamden Plaza on 2100 Dixwell Avenue.
Police say the suspect grabbed the shoulder strap of the woman's pocketbook. She was then "violently pulled to the ground," according to Police. She suffered a fractured shoulder and was hospitalized at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The suspect, who was wearing a face mask, stole $70.00, credit cards, and the victim's house keys. He entered a stolen vehicle and fled the area at a high speed.
Investigation, with help from the Meriden and New Haven Police Departments, led police to the suspect. He has been charged with first degree robbery, first degree conspiracy to commit robbery, second degree larceny, second degree conspiracy to commit larceny, and assault on an elderly person.
