(Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - The arena in the capital city formerly known as the Hartford Civic Center and the XL Center has a new name.
Under a new naming rights agreement, the facility will now be known as the PeoplesBank Arena.
The announcement on the new name was made Monday in Hartford.
PeoplesBank CEO and Chairman Thomas Senecal said "this is more than just a naming rights agreement for the city of Hartford and the state of Connecticut. This is a statement from PeoplesBank, about who we are and who we are not. About what we believe in, and where we are headed together."
The iconic arena, once home to the Hartford Whalers, also hosted concerts from top stars in its heyday, along with being a second home to UConn basketball.
The arena is currently under a $145 million makeover and is currently slated to reopen by year's end.
