Hartford, Conn./WTIC News - A bill in the legislature's Finance Committee that would have seen the elimination of the tax on motor vehicles in Connecticut essentially died on the vine Wednesday.

The committee did not act on the proposal.

A leading proponent of the bill, Manchester state Senator MD Rahman said in a statement afterward despite the committee's reluctance to act, there was movement this session toward getting the measure passed.

Rahman was a member of a panel that studied getting rid of the car tax.

Opponents, particularly local municipal leaders, were concerned with how to make up for the lost revenue, although the bill would have allowed them to tax commercial and real estate properties at a higher rate to help offset the loss.
