NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - New Haven Fire and City Officials are mourning the loss of an firefighter killed during an off-duty accident.
Thomas Mieles, 27, of New Haven, was outside of his disabled vehicle on I-91 Northbound near Exit 8. Another vehicle struck him while he was tending to his disabled vehicle.
“The passing of Fire Fighter Mieles is a tragic and devastating loss for the City of New Haven. He was a New Haven kid, went to Wilbur Cross High School, lived right nearby the firehouse in which he served, and was a longtime member of our community,” said Mayor Justin Elicker.
He leaves behind a family and fiance.
