Waterbury, Conn./WTIC Radio - Local and federal law enforcement officials are announcing convictions regarding gang activity in Waterbury.

They made the announcement at a Wednesday news conference at Waterbury police headquarters.

Those with the 960 street gang are responsible for murders, drug activity and shootings.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut Vanessa Roberts Avery says the two suspects convicted last week, Gabriel Pulliam and Julian Scott, were behind the fatal shooting of a woman back in October of 2018.

"No person or group of people is entitled to wreak havoc by engaging in repeated acts of violence", said Avery

She said "this type of gang-related activity is a federal crime that we will investigate and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law."

Four other suspects were convicted at an earlier trial.

Prosecutors used RICO statutes--normally used to stifle organized crime--in these instances.

A total of 16 gang members were originally indicted.
