Bristol, Conn./WTIC Radio - The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has completely paid off the mortgage held on the Bristol home for the widow of a fallen city police officer.
Representatives of the organization presented Laura Demonte with a hand delivered mortgage payoff notice.
Laura's husband Lieutenant Dustin Demonte was murdered in the line of duty along with Sergeant Alex Hamzy while answering a domestic call on October 12.
Officer Alec Iurato was wounded in the ambush but was able to take down the gunman.
Tunnel to Towers CEO Frank Siller met with the Demonte family on Tuesday.
“There are no words to express my gratitude to Mr. Siller and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation", said Laura Demonte.
“It was important for me to deliver this news in person, to show Laura that while it seems that the world has moved on, we have not forgotten her husband's sacrifice", said Siller.
The foundation pays off mortgages for the families of police officers and firefighters who are killed in the line of duty and leave behind young children
