Plainville, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A person has died in an early-morning condominium fire, according to Fire Chief Thomas Moschini.

Firefighters responded just after 3 a.m. to the ten-unit complex on Russell Avenue.

The fire was too intense for the unidentified victim to be rescued, Moschini said.

"En route to the fire, you could see it a half-mile away. The fire extended to both sides and we were told someone was inside," Moschini said. Everyone else was accounted for, he said.

According to Moschini, 45 firefighters fought the blaze. Many of them were new to the department, he said.

The chief also said three units in the complex will be uninhabitable for quite some time.

The Southington and Farmington Fire Departments provided assistance,
Moschini said.

The Fire Marshal is investigating and will be assisted by the State.
