Connecticut Office of Inspector General

The Connecticut Office of Inspector General releases its preliminary report and some police body cam footage of the moment when an officer-involved shooting happened in New Britain last week.

Police were investigating shots fired on Union Street before 3 p.m. last Wednesday, when they learned two suspects were wearing masks and acting suspiciously near the TD Bank Branch on Main Street.

The suspects made a run for it toward a parking lot on Herald Square, when police went to speak with them.

One of the suspects, described as a 17-year-old whose name isn't being released at this time, fired at Detective Nedderman. The Detective returned fire on the suspect "...several times," according to the report.

The suspect was injured, put into surgery, and is expected to survive.

Detective Nedderman, a plain clothes detective, wasn't wearing a body cam at the time. He was trying to put it on before the pursuit, according to the preliminary report, but didn't get it on in time for the foot chase.

Three other officers involved in the pursuit were wearing their cameras and captured different angles of the incident.

The State Inspector General has taken over the investigation.
