Police in New Haven respond to pedestrian crash, shooting

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The New Haven Police Department is investigating a pedestrian-involved car crash from early Monday morning after taking on a separate investigation into a shooting that left a victim in critical condition from Sunday afternoon.

Officers were notified of a pedestrian being struck on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard at about 6:04 a.m. on Monday.

Upon arrival in the area of Anita Street and Goffe Terrace, police said they located a Public Works employee laying in the roadway.

The victim, a 56-year-old Hamden man, was struck by a gray Audi, police said. The driver of the Audi cooperated with officers, they said.

An ambulance transported the victim to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Police continue to investigate and ask any witnesses to contact the department at 203-946-6304.

The day before, at about 12:15 p.m., New Haven police got a call about gunfire on Chapel Street between Kensington Street and Orchard Street.

As officers responded to the area, police were notified of a gunshot victim who walked into Yale New Haven Hospital, officials said.

The victim, a 33-year-old New Haven man, was listed in critical condition, police said.

That investigation is also ongoing.
