Pomfret couple arrested, accused of child abuse

POMFRET, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Connecticut State Police have arrested and charged a couple in connection with allegations of cruelty to a child.

Police say Jason Carroll and Jacqueline Barbour, both 34, of Pomfret Center, turned themselves in to face charges of intent cruelty to a child younger than 19 and risk of injury to a child.

An arrest warrant outlines a background of allegations stemming into the 11-year-old girl victim's malnourishment, maltreatment, and torture.

The warrant paints a picture the girl was allegedly forced to remain in a plastic tub in a fetal position, as well as go to unnecessary doctor visits for fabricated medical and psychological issues on the word of Barbour.

The child has been placed in foster care and is reportedly recovering from various medical issues and has not been displaying issues depicted by Barbour.

Carroll and Barbour were processed and released on a $100,000 bond.

The two were scheduled to be arraigned in Danielson Superior Court on Wednesday.
