Portland, Conn./WTIC Radio - In Portland, town officials are warning drivers that Route 17 is closed from Summer Street, as well as at Main Street and the fairgrounds area.
That stretch typically floods this time of year along the Connecticut River.
A flood warning is up through Friday.
The fire department says it had to rescue several people who apparently ignored the warning signs that are posted and attempted to drive through water that is deeper than it looks.
