PLYMOUTH, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - In a possible first in the United States, Connecticut public health officials say they have confirmed the presence of the synthetic opioid fentanyl in a sample of marijuana retrieved by police in Plymouth.
Public health officials issued a warning about pot possibly laced with fentanyl Thursday.

In recent months, officials have noticed that some people who reported using only marijuana, required the overdose-reversal drug naloxone to be revived.
"Maybe one small benefit of the legalization of marijuana is that you know you're getting a clean product," said Brian Foley, with the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.
Legal cannabis sales are expected to start next year in Connecticut.
Fentanyl has been involved in the bulk of overdose deaths in Connecticut in recent years.
