EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Pratt & Whitney announced Monday the sale of its 300-acre former airfield to Boston-based National Development.

The site is set to be used for further commercial development, likely two Amazon-like  warehouse  buildings. The 300-acre campus, which is also adjacent to University of Connecticut football stadium Rentschler Field and Cabela's, has more than 280 developable acres easily accessible to Interstates 84 and 91, according to Pratt & Whitney CBRE.

"This brings a tremendous opportunity for economic development to Rentschler Field, which could have a very positive impact on the overall Greater Hartford area," said Shane Eddy, Pratt & Whitney's SVP & Chief Operations Officer.

National Development is also bullish on the potential for the site.

"The combination of the central location, the immediate highway accessibility and the access to a densely populated labor pool is unparalleled and we are already hard at work evaluating possibilities," said Edward Marsteiner, Managing Partner at National Development.

East Hartford Mayor Michael Walsh said the e-commerce development means two Amazon-like warehouse buildings and two thousand new jobs. According to Walsh, the project should be  complete  by the  fall of  2023.
