HARTFORD, CONN. (WTIC Radio)-A coalition of religious leaders and those impacted by the criminal justice system are calling on Governor Ned Lamont to follow through with the implementation of Clean Slate--the erasure of misdemeanors and low-level felonies for more than 80-thousand people.
So far approximately 13-thousand records have been expunged. Advocates said this is the third attempt to make the records vanish because they
prohibit housing, employment and education.
The Lamont Administration blames aging data systems and poor data quality.
A spokesman for the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection said it anticipates erasure of another 65,000 records in the coming weeks, and nearly 190,000 dating back to 2000, will be completed over the next 12 months.
